Detailed Tracklist

Spa Tick - Top 20 of 2009 Part 1 (26-12-2009)

[No.20]1. Menno De Jong & Leon Bolier - Last Light Tonight

Very melancholic old school dutch trance feel!
[No.19]2. Paul Webster feat. Angelic Amanda - Time (Sean Tyas Remix)

Catchy and driving all at the same time, the dub mix is well suited for the dance floor!
[No.18]3. Lange & Andy Moor - Stadium Four

Powerful and Energetic track, nothing less to be expected from Lange and Andy Moor, is also the superior less cheesy alternative to “Faces” by Moor and Wallbridge
[No.17]4. Gareth Emery - Metropolis and Ocean Lab - On a Good Day

Anything post Satellite by Ocean Lab has not been as good as before (but still awesome), Metropolis is another work of genius by Gareth Emery, both tracks work well mashed together

[No.16]5. Dakota - Johnny the Fox (Barnes & Heatcliff Remix) and Airplay 47 - Be Free (Mat Zo Remix)

Barnes & Heatcliff have been the breakthrough revelation this year, this remix of Dakota is probably their top remix of many awesome productions/remixes this year.

Mat Zo deserves a shoutout too for this remix of Airplay 47.
[No.15]6. BT feat. Jes - Every Other Way (Armin van Buuren Remix)

Armin delivers a surprisingly solid remix on a great vocal track, works very well!
[No.14]7. Richard Durand - Into Something (Fall Down Mix)

A beautiful track by Richard Durand!
[No.13]8. Heatbeat – Vergatron

One of many “in your face” tracks by Heatbeat, its actually quite driving and unfortunately quite understated this year.
[No.12]9. Cosmic Gate - Sign Of The Times (Markus Schulz Remix)

Very unique and creative bouncy track (until it got copied to death), very good for the dance floor.
[No.11]10.Umnet Ozcan - Time Wave Zero
This is a track which is best served at the peak of a set!

Spa Tick - Top 20 of 2009 Part 2 (26-12-2009)

[No.10]1. Roger Shah & Tenishia Feat Lorilee - You're So Cool (Tenishia Mid Winder Remix)

A beautiful, ethereal vocal track by Roger Shah and Tenishia (Tenishia’s awesome!)
[No.09]2. Roger Shah & Signum - Healesville Sanctuary (Signum Mix)

Another beautiful track by Roger Shah, reminds me of the classic Gouryella – Tenshi!

[No.08]3. Matt Darey feat Urban Astronauts - See the Sun (Aurosonic Remix)

Matt Darey is awesome producing vocal trance, here he is back after almost a decade showing what he does best with Kristy Thirsk, the best vocalist from Delerium!

[No.07]4. Airbase feat Floria Ambra – Interfere

Cheesy lyrics mar an otherwise perfect trance track, but the vocals are still needed as the dub lacks some oomph.
[No.06]5. Super 8 and DJ Tab – Irufushi

This duo produce quality after quality, Irufushi is up there with Helsinki Scorchin’ and Elektra!
[No.05]6. Robert Burian feat. Zdenka Predna – You

I have never heard of Burian before this, but this simplistic Deadmau-ish track works very well!
[No.04]7. Ocean Lab feat Justine Suissa - Lonely Girl (Gareth Emery Remix)

An average track from Ocean Lab’s album turned into a monster club hit by the genius Gareth Emery
[No.03]8. Phynn – Spacewalk

Probably the most understated best track in 2009.

[No.02]9. tyDi feat. Audrey Gallagher - You Walk Away

The top track of Trance Energy 2009, the real breakout track of tyDi

Track of the Year 2009
[No.01]10.Rex Mundi Featuring Susana - Nothing at All

1st impressions count, and when I 1st heard this on Schulz’s Toronto’09, i was quite simply blown away. Awesomest and well deserving of No.1 this year.

Top 5 Mix Compilations of 2009

Another top notch year for mixes, heres my list for 2009:

Top Mix Albums

1. Electronic Architecture mixed by Solarstone

The best mix album this year by farrr. Excellent blend of relatively obscured tracks picked out from nowhere culminating in e a stunning, immersive beauty, this is aural pleasure at its finest.

2. Toronto 09 mixed by Markus Schulz

Chock full of (at that time) future hits, blended together, very awesome and alive especially culminating with the vocal monster "Nothing at All" towards the end which was simply epic.

3. Streamlined 09 Buenos Aires mixed by Leon Bolier

Very awesome first disc with relatively obscure gems which flow seamlessly from one track to another for a nice progressive journey, and then wham right from the leftfield comes the over-the-top violin strings of Fluxx & Lola – Romance which completely warps everything up but which also makes it so epic!
2nd disc is awesome too, riding the wave from one great track to another for a very Dutch-trance sound, awesome stuff.

4. Intercity 09 mixed by Lange

Any album that ends with happiness happening is guaranteed to give u a happy happening. Fantastic 1st CD with all round quality throughout, sensual yet energetic and finishing in the most epic way possible. 2nd CD is slightly disappointing but the epicness of the 1st disc is soo good and thats why its one of my top CDs of 2009

5. Mr Sam - Opus Tertio

A 2CD mix chock full of solid progessive productions that takes one into a very immersive journey.

My Top Picks for DJ Mag Top 100 2009

Time flies, its that time of the year again for the "strangely influential"(as quoted by A&B) Top 100 DJs award...I actually do bother to vote (since 2004) since if it improves the reputation of the DJ and hence increase (however slight) the chance of him performing at an accessible venue, why not aye?

The reason why trance djs are always top picks are probably because trance lovers are the most passionate about the music and all. For tranceheads, its always about the music, not who is cool and what not. Sad to say, for so called "lovers" of other genres, its all mostly pseudo posing and what-not, hence the dearth of DJs of other genres making it high up the list. (Respect to the true lovers of other genres though).

Without further ado, here's my top pick this year, not many changes, if there were more than 5 slots i would definitely have lots more candidates (including other genres) I would love to enter!

1. Gareth Emery

He has been pretty much my numero uno fave for his stunning productions and mixes for quite a while now. He is the only consistent producer / DJ who has maintained his high standards over a long period of time. Only a genius like him can come up with tracks like Metropolis and Exposure and deliver awesome classic remakes like Sunrise at Palamos, but his supreme genius this year must be found in his lethal mashup of Stadium Four and Lethal Industry (only found in his sets). Simply the best mashup this year, despite many other creative mashups.

2. Markus Schulz

I have always admired his work and he seems to be improving his standards unlike the other relative established personas whose works have depreciated from the golden years which catapulted them to awesomedom in the first place. This year sees the release of his album in his Dakota guise, all of which are surefire hits on any dancefloor (well, the remixes at least).

3. Lange

Old timer who is probably “under-valued” in terms of popularity considering the number of hits he has had. It is about time that I give him my vote!

4. Andy Duguid

He has been doing almost everything this year but unfortunately it seems like his creative juices may be tapering off just a wee bit, but his production values are still Boss. And still gets my vote! Hope he makes it in this year, he is one who deserves it fully.

5. Roger Shah

While his sound is getting a bit more predictable and generic now he has still unleashes a fine few gems here and there. Still waiting for his debut gig in SG. Haha.

Predictions This Year

1. Armin van Buuren

AvB again..how many years now? He seems unstoppable. Why? I do not know. But it is likely he’s gonna be top again.

2. Above and Beyond

They are pretty much unstoppable right now (and by right now I mean half a decade too late, which is pretty much Mixmag’s reaction time to DJs at their peak) and I think they may even edge 1st!

3. Tiesto

Exactly what path is he taking with his latest single? A slippery path downslope! Then again he has legions of mindless noob fans, coupled with his countless remixes of cheesy teeny bopper pop acts so anything can happen

4. Paul van Dyk

No matter what he does he seems to be able to maintain more street cred unlike his contemporaries (although imho he sold out equally as much as Tiesto and the rest).

5. Random Noob Non-trance DJ

I don’t really give a shit about this one. David Guetta again? Or maybe they’ll spin the random two-tier wheel again to see who to include. Why two tier? Well, one tier to decide which genre they should include and then the 2nd tier to decide which specific DJ, of course.
